Vincent Busuttil was born in Malta, in December of the year of the Dragon, 1964. His father, an Officer in the British Army, first involved Vincent in the Martial Arts by introducing him to Jujitsu as a child on the Army base in Malta. When Vincent’s father retired from his army career, Vincent’s family moved to Australia.
It was in Melbourne in 1982 that Vincent started studying Karate. Vincent was a dedicated student, training in every class possible. He progressed rapidly and soon became an Uchi Deshi (live-in student). He completed the Uchi Deshi program and then earned his Black Belt in 1988.
His martial art knowledge incorporates Goju Ryu Karate, Judo, Brazilian Jujitsu, Japanese Jujitsu (which includes locks, traps, escapes), Iaido (traditional Japanese sword drawing), Boxing and Kickboxing. He is a great believer that all instructors should continue to learn and progress in their knowledge of the martial arts. In this way, the martial arts that they teach is progressing and developing all the time.
His philosophy of teaching the martial arts is focused into three areas: the physical, psychological and spiritual (Body, Mind, Spirit). The Physical aspect of the Martial Arts involves the science of physiology, of techniques, the forms, advanced kicking and punching skills, the body conditioning and physical strength and fitness.
Secondly, the psychological aspects incorporate self-defence techniques that are tailored for the street; including the psychology of self-defence, strategy, tactics, mental alertness and mental agility and adaptability.
Finally, the third component, which Vincent believes to be the most important: the Life Empowerment skills designed to empower students to improve their life on every level physically, mentally and spiritually.
In 2014, seeking more learning for his passion Goju Ryu Karate, Vincent ventured to Okinawa to train under Goju-ryu head master Taira Sensei and has travelled back numerous occasions. He now holds a 5th Dan under Taira Sensei’s Goju-ryu system, of the Goju Ryu Kenkyukai.
Vincent is a man who has dedicated his life to the martial arts and a man whose everyday passion is to help others to succeed in life. His main goal is to reach as many people as possible in his life through the martial arts and to help them as the martial arts have helped him.
